Cycling Quebec's Eastern Townships
This cyling tour of Quebec's Eastern Townships is based in Magog,at the north end of Lake Memphremagog. Sections of Quebec's Route Verte in this area include L'Estriade and La Montagnarde. You'll find some recommended routes at Cycling the Eastern Townships. The following itinerary is based on these routes and our rides through the area over the years on la Route Verte. You'll find rolling hills and a mix of paved, unpaved bike paths and local roads. The entire area is hilly, with Mount Orford at the low point along the lake.
East from Magog . A safe and mostly easy loop to Sherbrooke and back, at least half of which is on bike paths. There is a half mile climb about 5 miles out of Magog as you cross the ridge between two lakes, but otherwise this is a relatively flat ride, with a total of 1200 ft. of climb and descent over 45 miles.
Magog-Orford loop . A surprisingly easy 31 mile ride from Lake Memphremagog, around Mont-Orford and through the Park, with a total climb and descent of 800 ft. The Climb is a fairly steady 2% grade until about the half way point as you reach the opposite side of the mountain , and an equally steady descent.
Ayers Cliff- Tomifobia Rail Trail. A pleasant loop east of Lake Memphremagog to the Vermont border and returning on the Tomophobia rail trail. Rolling hills and short medium grade climbs. We do not recommend Rt. 247 along the lake as it has no shoulder.
