Hub on Wheels is Boston's annual city-wide charity bike ride. Proceeds help Boston Public School Students get the technology and skills they need to succeed. Founded in 2005, the event showcases Boston's neighborhoods and parks, modeled after similar events in New York and Chicago. Each fall, thousands of participants join this celebration of Boston by cycling through Downtown, the Back Bay, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester, and South Boston.
Boston
Bike Map, viewable online
Over 200 Boston cyclists provided input for a cycling map of Boston's streets in 2008. Green routes are considered safe for family and children, primarily off-street. Blue roads are intermediate with some on-road cycling. Red is for experienced cyclists, often on congested roadways. Dotted black lines indicate bike paths. Other black solid or broken lines are for safer routes, some of which are signed.
Boston -North Shore Bike Route
Bike New England's route from Amesbury, Newburyport and Ipswich to Boston swings west through several state forests before reaching charming Wakefield. From there the ride takes local streets to the Mystic Valley Parkway, then joins the Minuteman Bike Path , marked bike routes in Cambridge and the Storrow Drive bike path in Boston to North Station. We return by commuter rail to Ipswich or Newburyport. Bikes are allowed on the commuter rail on weekends and holidays, but not during weekday rush hours. Check the MBTA site for schedules and details. Click below to download the maps and cue sheet for our tour from Amesbury to Boston in 2009.
