
Our deluxe seven day road bike tour with the best cycling in the Berkshires
Saturday
September 25 -
Six nights, seven days of gorgeous cycling based at three Berkshire County Massachusetts inns that touches on Connecticut, New York State and Vermont. The average ride distance is about 40 miles, with rolling hills in the south Berkshires and longer climbs with moderate grades in the north Berkshires and southern Vermont. For upper intermediate to advanced cyclists.

Itinerary:
Saturday, Day: 1 Egremont: Our first two evenings are at the Windflower Inn in South Egremont MA. After 2 pm check-in, we'll head out for a short "get acquainted" ride on quiet wooded roads in North Egremont. We return to the Inn for our first evening meal together.
Sunday
Day: 2 Mill River and Umpachenee Falls:
Today's ride takes us along the flat flood
plain of the Housatonic River past Sheffield farmland to Umpachenee
Falls. We return through the hamlet of Mill River and enjoy
an exhilarating downhill ride back to the Housatonic River, for a total
of 35 miles. A 45 mile option includes Campbells Falls in Connecticut
and rural Southfield MA. Dinner tonight is at John Andrews Restaurant in
South Egremont .
Monday, Day 3:Mount
Everett and New York
State:
Today
we offer a 5 mile ascent alongside the second highest mountain in
Massachusetts, Mount
Everett, with the option of van assistance to the top of the
climb. You'll enjoy a great descent to Copake in New York
State, near remarkable Bash Bish Falls. We ride a few miles
on the Harlem
Valley Rail Trail and then cycle several miles through
upstate New York farm country, before crossing the Taconic Range on our
return to South Egremont, for a total of 35 miles. After
returning to South Egremont, we depart in our cars and the Bike New
England van for the Apple Tree Inn in Lenox, MA, where we'll spend the
next two evenings.
For afternoon cycling from Lenox. we recommend the 18 mile loop crossing Lenox Mountain in Richmond to Hancock Shaker Village and back. Dinner tonight is at the Church St. Cafe in Lenox.
Tuesday,
Day 4: Monterey and
Tyringham:
We start out past "Guilded Era" mansions in Lenox and through
rural farmland on our way to popular Stockbridge.
The ride continues along the edge of Beartown State Forest to tiny
Monterey, then drops down to the Tyringham Valley. We'll have
lunch in Lee before returning to the Apple Tree Inn along Undermountain
Road, for a total of 45 miles. Dinner tonight is at Bistro Zinc in
Lenox.
Wednesday, Day 5: Alford and Stockbridge:
We check out of our rooms at the Apple Tree
Inn in the morning, but leave our cars here as we head out on a 35 mile
ride through Stockbridge and past the Norman Rockwell Museum.
After cycling along the rapids of the Housatonic river, we pass through
tiny Alford and stop for lunch in West Stockbridge. We often
take a break from the 2 mile moderate climb out of West Stockbridge for
a walk through the Berkshire
Botanical Garden. Today's ride is 35 miles, with a
50 mile option that includes a visit to the Hancock Shaker
Museum. After the ride, a 45 minute drive takes us to the Maple
Terrace Motel in Williamstown,
Massachusetts for our final two nights. We'll have dinner
together tonight at the Water St. Grill n Williamstown.
Thursday
Day 6, Bennington, Vermont:
In the morning we'll head north into
Vermont
through rural Pownal to Bennington, with a couple of interesting stops
at the Bennington
Fish Hatchery and the Hemmings
Motor News Old Car Museum . After lunch, you'll
ride through three covered bridges in North Bennington, and on to the
farmlands of Hoosac, NY. Today's ride is about 43
miles. For our final evening, we have dinner at Hobson's
choice in Williamstown.
Friday Day 7:
Around and Over Mount Greylock
(In the morning, we'll need to
check out of our rooms before beginning our ride). We head
south on scenic Green River Rd. and on to Lanesborough, where you have
two great options for our last day of cycling.
Strong cyclists will enjoy the 10 mile climb and 7 mile descent over
3450' Mount Greylock, the highest peak in
Massachusetts. For a beautiful but easier ride,
continue around the mountain on the 12 mile Ashuwillticook
Rail Trail . Distances: 35 miles going
over Mount Greylock, or 45 miles cycling around the mountain.

Meals: Continental breakfasts and delicious dinners are included in the tour price.We pay for our own lunches.
Rides: Rides generally start about 9 am. Maps and cue sheets are provided for each ride, but routes are not arrowed. Our two guides will ride with participants, providing providing distance and difficulty level options each day. Van support where needed or requested.
Bikes: Road or fast hybrid bikes are required for this tour. Jamis Coda hybrid roadbikes are available for $100 /week.
Other Activities: During our tour, You may wish to take time to visit other Berkshire cultural highlights: The Mount in Lenox, and Kripalu yoga center in Lenox, and the Clark Art Museum in Williamstown, and , and Mass MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams.Bicycle Shipping and rental: Assembly, transportation and reshipping of your bike is available for a $100 additional charge, plus shipping costs. Pickup and return to Logan Airport in Boston is available for a $100 extra charge.
